Dr. Moorthy Gurunathan is a renowned Pediatric Surgeon and Pediatric Urologist, is the Founder and Managing Director of Phoenix Women and Children’s Hospital, Velachery, Chennai.
Born in Annur village of Coimbatore district, Dr. Moorthy comes from a humble background. His father, Mr. Gurunathan, worked as a driver at Cheran Transport Corporation and his mother, Mrs. Kannammal, is a homemaker. Despite both parents being school dropouts, they strongly supported his education and aspirations.
Dr. Moorthy completed his schooling at Government School, Annur up to 10th standard and later pursued his higher secondary education at Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Coimbatore. An outstanding student, he was a school topper and also secured district-level ranks in both his 10th and 12th standard examinations.
He completed his MBBS from Perundurai Medical College with excellent academic performance. He went on to achieve an exceptional milestone by topping the All India Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination, earning admission to the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, where he completed his MCh in Pediatric Surgery.
Following his postgraduate training, Dr. Moorthy served as Assistant Professor at Sri Ramachandra Medical College and later as Professor and Head of Pediatric Surgery at Chettinad Medical College. He has also been a senior visiting consultant in several leading corporate hospitals across South Chennai.
Dr. Moorthy is widely recognized for his expertise in Pediatric Urology and Pediatric Laparoscopic Surgery. He has delivered numerous international presentations and has received several academic awards for his contributions to pediatric surgical care.
In recognition of his professional excellence, he was honored as “Best Doctors of South India 2025” by Outlook and listed among the “Eminent Doctors of South India” by India Today.
Today, through Phoenix Women and Children’s Hospital, he continues his mission of providing advanced and compassionate healthcare for women and children.

Dr. M. Kokila Moorthy’s journey is a story of dedication, resilience, and compassionate care. A native of Kavindapadi, Erode district, she was raised in a family devoted to public service—her father, Mr. Murugan, served as a male nurse at Government Hospital, Gobichettipalayam, and her mother, Mrs. Thulasiammal, was a respected teacher.
An outstanding student, she emerged as the District Topper in her Higher Secondary examinations, securing admission to the prestigious Government Kilpauk Medical College, Chennai (1998), where her journey in medicine began.
After MBBS at KMC she completed DGO at the prestigious Institute of Obstetrics & Gynaecology (IOG), Egmore (2004), she started her career as obstetrician at Government Hospital, Gobichettipalayam—a proud and emotional milestone, serving in the very institution where her father had dedicated his life.
In 2006, she married Dr. G. Moorthy and spent a brief phase at the AIIMS Delhi campus as a homemaker, before returning to Chennai to pursue advanced training and continue her medical career with renewed determination.
